SLE Worldwide closes, but locally it’s business as usual

Global sports, leisure and entertainment underwriting agency SLE Worldwide is closing its doors, saying its business is unsustainable. But that won’t affect the operations of SLE Worldwide Australia, with MD Brad French stating “it’s business as usual”.

SLE Worldwide and its Australian operation parted company in January 2006 when Aon sold several of its local underwriting agency businesses to Stardex Insurance Group.

“Nothing changes,” Mr French told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “It’s nothing to do with us.

“Since 2006 we’ve had different carriers and we’ve just renewed our binders, so it’s business as usual.”

SLE Worldwide Australia counts the National Rugby League and Sydney’s ANZ Stadium among its clients.

SLE Worldwide MD Mike Patchett has written to clients saying the company will no longer write any new business or offer renewal terms after September 30.

“SLE’s business model is no longer sustainable,” he said. “A number of alternative options have been considered but have not proved viable.”

Any SLE Worldwide quotations issued for business up to September 30 remain valid. Current policies will remain valid for the remainder of the current insurance term and SLE Worldwide will still manage claims and all alterations on policies until the date of renewal.
