Six of the best aid Guy Carpenter expansion

Marsh reinsurance broking subsidiary Guy Carpenter has added six people to its Australian operations in Sydney, as it looks to expand its advisory service.

Matthew Rose, a former executive at Suncorp, Wesfarmers Insurance and Zurich, will fill the new role of Principal, Capital and Strategy.

Tom Harvey has been appointed Catastrophe Analyst to develop models for bushfires, floods and other perils in Australia and New Zealand.

“The insurers most likely to produce exceptional returns in the future will be those that have the capabilities to understand their risk exposures and price and underwrite this business successfully,” Pacific Region CEO Tony Gallagher said.

Samantha Dew will relocate to Sydney in an intergroup transfer from Marsh in London. She will be responsible for broking casualty placements for large global clients.

Valerie Badcock also joins from London, and will lead the property team. The other new recruits are Kim Collins, who will be responsible for broking property placements, and Teresa Aquilina, who has more than 20 years’ experience in property and casualty underwriting.

The latest announcements follow the appointment earlier this month of Steve Bardsley, a former Calliden senior manager, as vice president.

Mr Bardsley will work in the facultative area, Mr Gallagher told insuranceNEWS.com.au

The role will include helping insurers with cover for business that falls outside treaty arrangements.

Mr Gallagher says Guy Carpenter has largely filled positions required for its current expansion but the company is “continuing to look for talent”.
