Regis Mutual Management has appointed former Willis Re MD Ty Birkett as CEO of the group in Australia and its offshoot Unimutual.

Unimutual provides cover to the higher education and research sectors.

Mr Birkett has also held senior roles at Swiss Re and Aon Re.

He takes over from Gerald Ewing, who has been Regis CEO for more than a decade and was a founding director. He will continue as a director of Regis in Australia and Britain.

Mr Birkett says working in a mutual is an attractive proposition after decades in profit-driven organisations.
