RACQ Insurance has launched a scheme offering premium discounts of up to 20% to clients in north Queensland under its Household Cyclone Resilience Program.

Under the scheme, which was introduced today, policyholders who have taken measures to protect their properties from cyclones will be entitled to the discount on the cyclone premium component of their RACQ Insurance home and contents policies.

“We certainly are [the first to offer such a program],” EM Insurance Communications Mike Sopinski told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“We are reacting to the market… and we wish to recognise and reward those households in north Queensland that have taken on responsibilities of cyclone mitigation measures on their properties.”

Clients can expect discounts of 5-20% if work such as roof strapping or replacement, over-batten systems, retrofits to meet the current building code and open protection such as roller door bracing have been undertaken.
