Zurich has appointed Hilary Bates as Chief Claims Officer for its general insurance business in Australia and New Zealand.

She was previously Head of Strategy and Technical at QBE Australia. Her industry experience spans more than a decade, and includes senior management roles in the US.

“Ms Bates brings with her a wealth of leadership and industry experience gained throughout her international career,” Zurich CEO General Insurance Australia and New Zealand Raj  Nanra said.

“Her appointment highlights our commitment to technical claims excellence including customer service as well as our commitment to further strengthening our organisation through attracting great people.”

Ms Bates will start on August 15.

Zurich has also announced the promotion of Head of Broker Management Lori Messori to Head of Commercial Distribution with immediate effect. He joined the insurer in 2013 as national broker manager.
