QBE recruits more staff in Philippines
QBE now has 2100 staff at its global shared services centre in the Philippines, and is recruiting dozens more.
Spokesman David Symons says most of the staff are Filipinos, employed at two locations in Manila and one in Cebu.
In May last year the insurer began hiring 1000 staff to open the site in Cebu, he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
The QBE Philippines recruitment web page currently features dozens of jobs in Manila and Cebu, with vacancies including claims officer, senior business analyst, insurance operations team leader, and accounting and finance staff.
Some of the roles are to replace promoted workers, and others will fill gaps created by staff transition.
Mr Symons says some current staff are “subject matter experts” from QBE regions including Europe, North America and Australia.
In 2013 QBE announced a transformation strategy to set up the shared services centre, aiming to cut $250 million a year in costs, plus $15 million in IT-related costs, by this year.
The centre, which includes finance, procurement and IT operations, was to move 3000 QBE positions to the Philippines by this year, 700 of them from Australia.
“Our model for the shared services centre is delivering exactly what we expected – and more – and is on target to deliver on the original objectives,” Mr Symons said.
There are no plans to expand beyond the three Philippines sites, but the operation will grow to meet the company’s needs. “The business has seen the benefits of efficiency, scale and process improvement… and we are looking to see what other services the [centre] can provide.”
