Qantas customers lap up loyalty points with insurance plans

Qantas says its travel, life, car and newly-added home insurance has become one of the fastest-growing ways for its customers to earn loyalty points.

Last week Qantas Home Insurance, underwritten by Auto & General, was added to the airline’s stable of cover options.

The airline entered the motor market in partnership with Auto & General just over a year ago, and is leveraging the appeal of its frequent flyer rewards program to tap into wider financial services revenue streams.

It also offers travel insurance, underwritten by Lloyd’s, life policies from TAL and health cover issued by Nib.

“The products we’ve launched through Qantas Insurance have seen frequent flyers pocket billions of points,” Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth says. “It’s an important point of difference for us in the market.”

Up to 40,000 Qantas Points is on offer for Qantas Frequent Flyer program members who sign up for a Qantas Home Insurance policy by the end of February, as well as one point for every dollar spent on their premium.

Policyholders can earn extra points with household safety measures like unplugging unused electrical appliances and checking smoke detectors.
