'Personal reasons': Blue Zebra co-founder quits

Blue Zebra CEO Blair Nicholls has left the underwriting agency, with the business citing “personal reasons” as the reason for his departure.

Mr Nicholls was co-founder of the insurtech, which launched in 2018 aiming to bring personal lines products back to brokers.

MD and co-founder Colin Fagen told insuranceNEWS.com.au today that Mr Nicholls left in March, although no official statement was made at the time.

Mr Fagen says he will incorporate Mr Nicholls’ previous responsibilities into his own role, and a new CEO will not be recruited.

“We have lost no momentum and it is business as usual,” he said.

In March Youi began underwriting Blue Zebra products, after former partner Zurich announced it would cease providing security.

Mr Fagen says there has been a period of minor adjustment following the change.

“Youi has a different underwriting methodology and there is a month or two of calibration to go,” he said.

“But we will launch our commercial products next quarter and we are starting to expand our product range as we always said we would.”
