NZI turns 150
Auckland-based NZI celebrated its 150th birthday on Thursday.
The insurer, now part of IAG, was founded on May 21 1859 and claims to be New Zealand’s oldest brand.
Formed less than 20 years after the treaty of Waitangi was signed, the company was a trailblazer for NZ businesses overseas. Its insurance policies gave the nation an export profile long before other companies had moved their attention overseas.
NZI is now the intermediated business arm of IAG NZ.
