No decision on local job losses, AIG says

AIG Australia is being coy on whether its US parent’s plan for further organisational change and job cuts will affect local operations.

The global insurer has announced structural changes to achieve “organisational simplification, operational efficiency and business rationalisation”.

It has foreshadowed further staff cuts, including up to 400 senior management positions.

However, it is not clear what the local impact will be.

“AIG routinely assesses market opportunities worldwide,” a spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“We continue to evaluate our businesses and geographies.”

As to whether jobs will be lost in Australia or New Zealand, the spokesman said: “No decisions have been made at this time.”

AIG reported a net loss of $US231 million ($323 million) for the third quarter of this year, compared with a net profit of $US2.2 billion ($3.08 billion) in the corresponding period last year.
