New Suncorp HQ gives a nod to history

Suncorp has recognised the history of the site of its new Brisbane head office by naming the complex Heritage Lanes.

Suncorp has agreed a 10-year lease with Mirvac, which is also revitalising the historic Brisbane Fruit and Produce Exchange which will form part of the site.

The construction project began last year at 80 Ann Street and is on track to be completed in 2022. It will incorporate design elements of the original market frontage, featuring a glazed podium canopy to represent the site’s original roof form.

“It was important to select a name that paid tribute to the site’s history,” Suncorp EGM of Real Estate Colin Harris said.

He says lessons learned from Suncorp’s COVID-19 response have influenced the designers to “think differently about how we use our office spaces more efficiently, ensuring our people can work flexibly across virtual and physical locations”.

Heritage Lanes will have a five-star energy rating and Suncorp has joined the global RE100 initiative, committing to source all its electricity from renewable energy by 2025.

The new building will accommodate Suncorp staff from across three city locations and follows similar consolidation moves in Sydney, Auckland and Melbourne.
