New Aon chief targets data benefits, emerging risks

Aon’s incoming Australian CEO James Baum says analytics and emerging risks will be among his key areas of focus.

“We are continuing to invest in our data and analytics offer and see this as a fundamental capability that can bridge the innovation gap between our insurance partners and our clients,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“Having rich data and insights helps us identify and mitigate clients’ ever-changing risks.”

Emerging risks such as cyber breaches are another key area, with Aon working with clients to better understand the threats they face and to develop mitigation and resilience programs and cover.

Mr Baum says the group is considering new business structures to keep pace with market changes.

“In particular, we are continuing to look for opportunities to collaborate with our clients and partners to develop bespoke solutions for their insurance and risk needs, whether through the lens of distribution or the quality of the products themselves,” he said.

Mr Baum will take up the CEO role during the second quarter, taking over from Lambros Lambrou, who is shifting into a broader role with the global group.

As MD Commercial Mr Baum has travelled across the branch network and has prioritised adding leadership from regional areas and improving the group’s age and gender balance.

“Diversity is key to our ability to grow the business,” he said. “I’ve also been focused on identifying potential merger and acquisition opportunities, which supports the current growth trajectory of our commercial business and our ambitions for the next 3-5 years.”
