Marine Skippers adds single voyage product
Marine Skippers Insurance has introduced single voyage policies for delivery skippers.
Company co-founders Nicholas Bedggood and Dean Bowen tell insuranceNEWS.com.au they recently visited London to finalise the facility, meeting with Lloyd’s syndicates that have supported the product.
"We broached the subject of a single voyage option for boat deliveries/movements. It was really pleasing that they were supportive of this idea and put their trust in us,” Mr Bowen, who is Director Operations & Placement, said.
"As a result, we will now be able to cater this product offering to a broader number of marine skippers to ensure they can further protect themselves from the direct threat of litigation,” he said, thanking UK-based One Global Marine Broker Edward Dowles and his team for "working tirelessly for a number of years to help make this happen”.
Marine Skippers, a corporate authorised representative of Community Broker Network which launched in July, is the first standalone policy available in Australia for commercially qualified and delivery skippers. It provides a $5 million limit, covering the skipper vessel to vessel for craft they operate but do not own.
“The initial take-up of the new product has been encouraging and we are pleased to now broaden our offering,” Mr Bowen said. “After the initial launch of the product we have taken the time to listen to both our new customers and our target audience to develop another offering.”
The new product is available for delivery skippers for boat movements/boat deliveries on a single voyage port to port basis and will start from $395, providing an alternative to annual policies given the seasonal nature of boat movements or for skippers who may only move boats up to a few times a year.
"These people may be semi-retired or move vessels on a casual/part time basis, for example at Hamilton Island Yacht Week,” Mr Bowen said.
Mr Bowen is this year’s NSW/ACT Young Broker of the Year, an award sponsored by Vero, while Mr Bedggood is the region’s Broker of the Year, which is sponsored by QBE.
