Mackinnon targets growth with Gow-Gates

Well-known broker Chris Mackinnon is returning to Australia from the UK to take up a position as the new CEO of Sydney brokerage Gow-Gates.

Mr Mackinnon, who has been working for Arthur J Gallagher in London for the past three years, says he wants to expand the operations of Gow-Gates, one of the largest privately owned brokerages in Australia.

He takes up the new appointment from April 8.

The Gow-Gates business includes energy, equine and medical cover, Mr Mackinnon says.

“We have a great opportunity to broaden out into new, complementary areas to support our existing clients, while building on the current areas of expertise,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Anthony Gow-Gates and the Australian team see opportunities for organic growth and careful, strategic investment, he says.

Mr Mackinnon previously worked in Australia for 20 years, including as MD of Arthur J Gallagher Australia, “working with the late, great Frank Earl”.

He most recently spent three years with the company in London, managing strategy and development for its financial lines practice.

He has also worked for Marsh and Aon and is a former deputy chairman of the National Insurance Brokers Association’s NSW division.
