Lumley turns to local labour for Christchurch rebuild
Lumley Insurance in New Zealand is recruiting local experts to resolve Christchurch earthquake claims more quickly and efficiently.
The program – known as the Lumley Canterbury Response Unit – has created 60 jobs.
“The unit has been expanded so we are able to resolve claims faster, but more technical skills are required as we ramp up the physical works phase,” acting Head of Earthquake Response Scott Lewis told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“This single response unit will be able to take direct responsibility for resolving each and every claim we have as we move into the second phase of the response – the rebuild/repair phase.”
The unit requires local specialists such as quantity surveyors familiar with the area and environment.
Mr Lewis says the key is to finalise claims so people know their options: repair, rebuild or a cash settlement.
“Once they agree, we commence repairs of homes… or completely rebuild as required,” he said. “We want to get them back into their normal home environment as soon as possible.”
Lumley holds about 9% of the domestic market in Christchurch.
