Johns Lyng wins NSW flood recovery contract

Building services provider Johns Lyng Group (JLG) says it has been contracted by the NSW Government to lead its recovery response to the February/March flood catastrophe.

Under the agreement signed, the listed business will work with the Government to roll out the state’s Property Assessment and Demolition Program, a $142 million initiative that provides free structural assessments of eligible flood-impacted properties in 58 local government areas.

Johns Lyng Group will take on the role of managing contractor to oversee the program, which is also funded federally.

JLG Australia CEO Nick Carnell says the group’s primary focus is on ensuring communities are supported throughout this process and rebuilt and rejuvenated as quickly as possible.

“We, along with all Australians, were shocked by the immense scale of the devastation and destruction caused by these floods,” he said.

“So JLG is both honoured to be awarded this contract and eager to commence with this significant body of work.”

The NSW Government says the program also provides demolition and removal of waste for free if affected properties are found to be beyond economic repair and uninhabitable.

The program will be available to insured and uninsured owners of property that has been assessed as being damaged – slight, moderate or severe – or destroyed. The properties must have been used for residential, small business or primary production purposes.

Businesses or homeowners may be eligible for the program if they meet the criteria such as not having insurance for the damage, or if their insurance does not cover the damage caused during the floods.
