JLT chief sees upbeat future for diligent small brokers
Small business brokers will have a positive future in the insurance industry if they continue to focus on clients’ needs, according to JLT Group CEO Dominic Burke.
“Basically, the industry hasn’t changed,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au last week during a visit to JLT’s Australian operations. “I think the best advice I can give is to never take your relationship with your clients for granted. Deliver on your promise [and] be transparent.
“Clearly smaller brokers have to invest in technology because there are different distribution channels evolving today, and technology’s playing an increasing part in all of these.”
Mr Burke says he is “a tremendous advocate” of young people entering insurance broking.
“People don’t grow up as young boys and girls and say, ‘I want to be an insurance broker,’ but I think they ought to. Getting the right outcomes for clients is a great thing.
“I’m nostalgic about my own time as a small broker before I joined JLT, because it’s great being in front of clients. That was the best part of the job then, and it still is.”
A full interview with Mr Burke will feature in the October issue of Insurance News (the magazine).
