Ironshore enters Australian market targeting complex corporate risk

US-based specialty insurer Ironshore Inc has expanded to Australia, where it is targeting the market for large, complex corporate risks.

Ironshore Australia MD David Rogers has moved into the company’s new Melbourne HQ from its Chicago office. He told insuranceNEWS.com.au specialty insurance products the company will offer include trade credit, environmental and property catastrophe cover.

It will also underwrite a comprehensive suite of specialty commercial lines including property, liability, professional indemnity, marine, environmental and political risk through Ironshore’s Lloyd’s syndicate, Pembroke.

Mr Rogers says Ironshore has significant expertise in the resources sector and is looking to provide directors’ and officers’ and professional indemnity cover to the mining and energy industries here.

The company’s expansion into Australia is part of a push to establish a global presence. Mr Rogers’ team will focus on Australia initially but it has approval from Pembroke to write business for New Zealand and does intend to serve that market, he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

The company will also monitor business development opportunities in southeast Asia.
