InterRisk expands with Atlas acquisition

InterRisk has acquired Atlas Insurance Brokers for an undisclosed sum, as it looks to grow its Queensland presence.

Mackay-based Atlas, which specialises in mining services, transport, construction and engineering, will continue to trade under its current brand.

Founder John Carter and co-director Jack Weston will retain active roles in Atlas. Mr Carter will also keep a 20% shareholding.

InterRisk and Atlas have worked together on major account initiatives over the past two years.

InterRisk Chairman Dennis Guy says the group is looking to expand its geographic presence in Queensland, having successfully established itself in the Brisbane market.

“This acquisition will enable us to leverage the strengths of both businesses and deliver significant benefits to Atlas’ clients, including unparalleled access to insurance markets worldwide.”

Last year InterRisk became part of the Austbrokers broking network. The Atlas acquisition gives Austbrokers a foothold in Mackay.
