InsNet name goes as Telstra expands its view

InsNet, the organisation formed to build Sunrise Exchange, has changed its name to better reflect its expanded role within Telstra. On Friday InsNet was renamed Telstra eBusiness Services Pty Ltd, with a mandate to use the expertise it has gained in the general insurance industry to expand into a range of other service-based industries.

CEO David Brawn says Telstra eBusiness Services, part of the giant telco’s Services Solutions group, is now responsible for virtually all transaction-based services in Telstra.

InsNet was formed in March 2000 after Telstra acquired and merged two companies to work on electronic transaction needs in the insurance industry. It has now completed building Sunrise Exchange, which uses state-of-the-art web-based technology to provide a continually expanding range of services to intermediaries and insurers.

Mr Brawn says the old InsNet team will remain intact under the Telstra eBusiness Services banner, but the team’s success in building a new system for insurance will now be used to exploit opportunities in such industries as retail, health, trade, banking/finance and automotive.

“The new product portfolio we are working on will address opportunities to streamline the way business and government customers transact with each other to reduce costs, improve productivity and efficiency, enhance customer service and address new business opportunities,” Mr Brawn said.

Things have come a long way in less than three years. “This new name more accurately describes the much wider breadth of activities in the business.”
