IAG reorganises NZ operations

IAG New Zealand has presented proposals to its 1800 staff that will see the company reorganising its operations by the end of the year. The company was formed by the acquisitions of State Insurance and NZI, and is now the country’s largest general insurer.

CEO David Smith said the proposals will keep job rationalisation to a minimum, thanks to restructures the two companies went through 18 months ago. “Our big wins revolve around procurement, property, technology and business process,” he said yesterday.

IAG NZ has 31 sales centres, 10 branches, seven district offices and eight call centres. Mr Smith said there are no plans to change the company’s existing retail brands and customers will continue to deal with the familiar State and NZI brands.

Up to 70 Wellington-based roles will be moved over the next year. About 30 support roles in finance and procurement will move to Auckland, and a broker support unit of 43 will move to Christchurch.

There will be 30 new claims centre roles and an additional 30 broker support staff in Christchurch. Whether IAG’s HQ will be in Auckland or Wellington hasn’t yet been decided, with Mr Smith maintaining an office in both cities and half the senior executive team remaining Wellington-based for now.
