IAG cuts direct insurance jobs

IAG is shedding staff in its direct insurance division in line with its new executive team structure announced last month.

In a note to members last week, the Finance Sector Union says IAG’s direct insurance arm has announced a round of redundancies but has committed to minimise retrenchments and accommodate requests for flexible work arrangements where possible.

NRMA Insurance spokesman Andrew Tubb told insuranceNEWS.com.au while some roles have been affected, a number of new roles have also been created.

“Every effort is being made to offer alternative options to employees, including relocations, extended leave and job-sharing,” he said.

He says it’s impossible to quantify job losses until the company works through these options with staff.

Jobs are likely to go in management positions in IAG’s direct insurance brands NRMA Insurance (NSW, Queensland and Tasmania), SGIO (WA) and SGIC (SA). Staff employed in IAG’s insurance joint venture with RACV Insurance will not be affected.
