Honan adds technology division, revamps leadership

Honan Insurance Group has created a technology division to be led by Nathaniel Barrs, as part of wider changes to its strategy and leadership team.

“Our new strategy focuses on four key pillars: client value, operational excellence, new technologies and data and analytics,” CEO Damien Honan said.

The company employs more than 150 staff and has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, New Zealand and Singapore

Honan plans to double technology investment under the new strategy and will recruit an IT manager as it builds internal expertise and appoints further specialist staff as required.

“The insurance industry offers significant opportunity for ‘smart’ businesses,” Mr Barrs told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “We believe technology will assist us in generating optimal results in service quality and operational efficiency for our clients.”

Mr Barrs has been with Honan since 2015, when he was appointed director of property and affinity.

The company also says Andrew Fluitsma will have an expanded role as Group MD and Chief Broking Officer, responsible for six sales and service business units: global and corporate, strata and real estate, partnerships, risk consulting, “risk smart” and employee benefits.

Mr Fluitsma previously led the global and corporate divisions in driving the new business, carrier management and client service strategy.

Brad Tymmons becomes COO, managing departments including finance, legal, human resources, marketing, compliance, business planning and administration. Mr Tymmons is responsible for delivering the strategic plan.

The leadership changes took effect last week.
