Zurich Financial Services Australia COO Hilary Bates has been appointed Chief Compliance Officer in the insurer’s UK team.  

Sydney-based Ms Bates has been at Zurich for seven years, and formerly spent three years at QBE, ending as Head of Strategy and Technical. She also spent more than six years at Chubb. 

"Having worked in both Australia and the US, Hilary has significant governance and controls knowledge, alongside experience of delivering for customers across different markets in mature regulatory environments,” Zurich said. 

Ms Bates says the UK Compliance function is well-versed in supporting and challenging Zurich to manage its compliance risks. 

“I am really looking forward to joining the team,” she said.
