HDI joins flight safety group for risk insights
HDI Global has become a member of the Flight Safety Foundation’s Basic Aviation Risk Standard to bolster risk management among its aviation clients.
It will now have access to comprehensive, deidentified flight operator audit data and accident analyses.
“BARS membership will make our clients safer,” HDI GM and global head of the aviation centre of excellence Jamie Bowes said. “Joining the program is a win-win situation for all parties. Our intention is to sponsor our insureds to go through the program, thus enabling our worldwide aviation underwriters to benefit ... by gaining access to global audit data analysis, as well as accident and incident data.”
These insights will allow HDI to assess insurance risks and risk management strategies, which “will be reflective in our insureds’ insurance premiums”, he says.
The BARS program was established in 2010 to review aviation operators serving resources and mining. About 1500 audits in more than 45 countries for more than 250 aircraft and operators have been delivered under the program.
HDI underwriting teams worldwide will now be trained and “gain greater insight into the safety performance of operators through the globally recognised safety standard for contracted aviation that the BARS program provides”, the insurer says.
