GB flags complexity of EQC claims

Claims manager Gallagher Bassett (GB) has highlighted a combination of in-field experience and targeted training and development as the key to its status as a preferred partner for insurers managing Toka Tu Ake EQC claims.

GB EQC Relationship Manager Todd Niccol says the “inherently complex” nature of the claims require continued investment in the upskilling of claims practitioners to ensure they can handle any difficulties presented.

“Our comprehensive training program spans diverse topics including complex shared land claims, cross-lease properties, report writing, service and title interpretation,” Mr Niccol said.

“Through this, we empower our people with the advanced technical and personal skills needed to transform the complex into clear outcomes.

“With the Natural Hazards Insurance Act 2023 due to take effect mid next year, our team is already building the training required to become proficient with the early draft. This will ensure we’re able support our insurer partners to maintain regulatory compliance.”

The act will incorporate a list of changes to ease the process of making a claim following a natural disaster. The changes stem from New Zealand marking two of its costliest natural catastrophe events in Cyclone Gabrielle and the Northern Island floods.

Mr Niccol, who previously served as a senior EQC loss adjuster, says the impact of experienced professionals could not be overstated in supporting efforts during heightened claims activity from natural catastrophes.

“During the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquake events, as well all the ongoing BAU claims, it has become increasingly clear how valuable it is to have experienced builders working as assessors to help the community recover from loss,” Mr Niccol said.

“This is why our team consists of licensed builders who we’ve trained in land assessing, as well as qualified loss adjusters.”

Now working at GB, he highlights an organisational culture and expertise to meet the demands of metropolitan and rural communities.

“Our team and our results are driven by more than just skills; it’s about integrity and trust,” Mr Niccol said.

“Insurers and their customers rely on us to navigate these complexities with care and offer effective solutions.”
