Suncorp’s EGM distribution of personal insurance Gerard McDermott has left Suncorp to join BT Financial Group as head of its expanding general insurance division.

Mr McDermott took up the EGM position in Suncorp earlier this year. Prior to that he was MD of its authorised representative network Resilium from 2012.

He will join BT on September 14.

BT is increasing its general insurance offering after parent company Westpac signed a deal with Allianz in January to provide motor, travel and business insurance. 

Allianz was already writing Westpac’s home and contents cover.

BT GM Insurance and Investments David Lees says Mr McDermott will lead the rollout of new products.

Mr McDermott replaces Martin Kelly, who has held the role in an acting capacity after Jim Glossat left last year. 

Mr Glossat is now CEO Risk Services with automotive industry focused co-operative the Capricorn Society.
