Fogarty moves on from Zurich

Zurich Australia CEO Daniel Fogarty will leave the company on Wednesday after three years in the role.

As reported in our Breaking News bulletin on Friday, CFO Rajbir Nanra has been appointed CEO on an interim basis.

Mr Fogarty has been CEO General Insurance, Australia and New Zealand and Country Head since mid-2012.

He joined Zurich in 2009 from Suncorp, where he was EGM Suncorp Insurance and also managed the group’s call centres and motor claims areas. He had previously worked for Westpac in a variety of management roles including insurance, marketing and banking.

He managed Zurich’s SME and packages division before being promoted to COO in April 2010 and CEO two years later.

Mr Fogarty oversaw a period of considerable change at Zurich, restructuring its underwriting operations to make them more consistent in delivery for brokers.

The company also became more centralised, with state-focused commercial service delivery teams set up in the Zurich Underwriting Centre in Sydney.

It was also a period of considerable management change, with a number of senior figures leaving the operation.

Mr Fogarty can count among his “wins” Zurich’s breakthrough victories in the prestigious National Insurance Brokers Association insurer of the year award in 2013 and 2014.

He was also a major influence in the industry’s drive to become more focused on addressing recruitment, skill shortages and staff retention issues.

Mr Nanra, an Australian, joined Zurich’s Australian operation last year.

He has an insurance and finance background spanning 22 years, and has worked in China, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

He joined Zurich in January 2013 as regional audit director for Asia-Pacific from Ace Asia-Pacific.
