FM Global has confirmed that a packaging factory destroyed by fire in Perth’s eastern suburbs last Thursday was insured by subsidiary company AFM.

There was little left of the Integrated Packaging factory in Kewdale after the fire broke out on Thursday morning. The cause of the blaze is unknown, with local media saying the loss is estimated at around $5 million.

“At this time AFM’s focus is on providing support to Integrated Packaging,” an FM Global spokesperson told Insurance News via email. “As the insurer, it is not appropriate for us to comment on the situation.”

Media reports say the fire started in pallets of plastic cups stored along the fenceline of the property.
