First Australian elected as WBN Chairman

A Melbourne insurance broking executive has been appointed Chairman of the Worldwide Broker Network (WBN), the world’s largest association of privately owned insurance brokers.

Damien Honan, CEO of Honan Insurance Group, is the first person from the Asia-Pacific to be elected to the position, and is also the youngest at the age of 46.

He will hold the role for 18 months after being elected unanimously by the WBN board.

Mr Honan will also host the WBN global conference in October, when more than 200 insurance brokers from 60 countries will gather in Melbourne.

“A lot of insurance business is being conducted in the Asia-Pacific region, and that’s going to increase dramatically as global operations move to the region,” Mr Honan told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “The importance of insurance and getting information on insurance in those regions will be crucial.”
