Dual’s Abbruzzo takes new role amid leadership overhaul

Dual Asia Pacific CEO Damien Coates has announced leadership changes across Australia and New Zealand.

From October, co-founder Leo Abbruzzo will move from ANZ CEO to the newly created role of Executive Chairman ANZ.

Deputy CEO Michael Ussher will assume responsibility for the client management function in Australia, while Craig Wincote has been promoted to the newly created role of ANZ Chief Underwriting Officer.

"Now is the right time for these functions to be led by Michael and Craig respectively as part of our overall leadership and management structure,” Mr Coates said.

"I am incredibly excited to announce these changes as we continue with our growth plans of reaching $500 million premium in ANZ by 2025.”

Mr Ussher’s expanded role includes four branch locations, online platforms including BizCover, Marketing and Communications, and National Broker Partners. Kerryn Symes has been promoted to Head of National Partnerships, reporting to Mr Ussher alongside branch managers Adrian Salamone (Southern), Anthony Morgan (Queensland), Daniel Brown (NSW) and Dragana Ljubicic (WA).

Mr Wincote’s responsibilities include Product Management and Claims and Actuarial, and the existing product suite of Financial Lines, Accident & Health, Cyber, General Liability, and Property and Motor in New Zealand.

Dual New Zealand GM Paula Sheppard-Jones will now report to Mr Coates.

"When Leo and I founded Dual almost 20 years ago we could never have dreamt of building such a great underwriting business, predominantly organically, to $400 million premium across seven offices in Australia and New Zealand,” Mr Coates said.

“Leo has always been the heart of Dual and I am positive this will continue as he transitions from operational management while maintaining his critical guidance and leadership in support of our ongoing growth.”
