Dual appoints new claims manager

Dual Australia has appointed Bernadette Casey as National Claims Manager, as the company continues its recovery from a $17 million claims fraud.

Ms Casey, who starts on November 4, was previously at Lawcover and prior to that Swiss Re.

Acting National Claims Manager Jaydon Burke-Douglas will return to the role of Specialty Risks Practice Leader after a handover period.

“Jaydon has been an incredible asset to Dual throughout a turbulent period for our claims department, working tirelessly to ensure Dual’s brokers and insureds are not affected,” COO Clinton Evans said.

Simone Shepherd has been promoted to Claims Practice Leader.

The fraud was allegedly committed by previous national claims manager Josie Gonzalez and her husband Alvaro through invoices from bogus legal firm JAAG, which they allegedly set up.

Dual says all JAAG invoices have now been reversed, and all binders were renewed on October 1 with the same insurers.

CEO Damien Coates says this “concludes a difficult chapter” for Dual.
