Our tongue-in-cheek comment last week that Macquarie Bank has a “new-found interest in insurance brokers” has been disputed by the bank, which says it “has been providing specialised business banking solutions to insurance brokers for nearly two decades”. The news item in question also quoted a Macquarie manager saying the bank has “been working in the [broking] environment for years”.

Macquarie also objected to the headline saying it had bought an “insurance broking service”. It was in fact a Canadian premium funder.
