CGU moves fast over flood claims
CGU Insurance says it’s already on top of flood claims from customers in the Queensland city of Bundaberg and surrounding regions.
GM Claims Donna Walker says the company has completed more than 100 property assessments and booked a further 200 visits. It has also allocated more than 130 claims directly to builders.
This is in sharp contrast to criticism the insurer faced in the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry two years ago, when CGU CEO Peter Harmer came under fire for a flood claim in Brisbane.
The insurer also was criticised last year at the federal parliamentary strata insurance inquiry for allegedly dramatic increases in premiums.
Ms Walker says she is satisfied with CGU’s response to the latest Queensland natural disaster.
“We’ve dealt with our claims lodgements well, which has enabled us to progress quickly to undertake assessments and necessary repairs,” she said.
“We have already begun settling smaller claims, so our customers are able to replace their goods or begin repairing damage.”
CGU has sent more staff to Bundaberg to deal with claims and established two temporary offices in the town.
