Calliden on acquisition trail

Sydney-based Calliden Group has acquired a specialist motor underwriting agency catering for veteran, vintage and classic vehicles, and the learner driver and young driver markets.

WA-based Famous Classic Car Insurance was established in 1982 and was the first agency in that state to specialise in insurance for vintage, veteran and classic cars.

Calliden has been on the acquisition trail of late. At the beginning of October the insurer took a 50% stake in new niche agency Sports Underwriting Australia.

At the end of August, Calliden acquired the specialist motor underwriting agency Dawes Underwriting Australia, which also operates in the prestige and vintage motor markets.

Calliden Group MD and CEO Nick Kirk says the acquisition of Famous Classic Car Insurance fits neatly with the strategy of writing niche personal lines business through established underwriting agencies.

“The recent acquisition of Dawes Underwriting Australia has provided us with infrastructure to develop our presence in this niche area. The Famous portfolio is an excellent fit with the Dawes business and demonstrates Calliden’s commitment to the niche motor sector.”
