BMS extends reach with Melbourne broking operation

UK-based broker group BMS has opened an affinity broking operation in Melbourne that will concentrate on Australia and New Zealand.

Former Marsh national manager for consumer affinity Shamus Breen leads the team and will work closely with Global Affinity Practice Leader Brian Gomes, who is based in Canada.

“Globally, there is a growing market for our industry-leading online sales technology, which is serving us so well in Canada,” BMS International CEO David Battman said.

“By introducing this proven technology platform to Australia and New Zealand, using our new base in Melbourne, we are demonstrating our commitment to a market with significant growth potential.

“[Mr Breen] brings a wealth of industry knowledge and market contacts to the new BMS operation and we are convinced he will contribute significantly to the growth and development of our regional business.”

BMS opened an office in Brisbane last year as part of its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.

The independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker recorded £62 million ($107.7 million) turnover last year and £14 million ($24.3 million) trading profit.

It has 14 offices globally and more than 300 employees.
