BJS Insurance Brokers expands

BJS Insurance Brokers has announced the acquisition of Adelaide brokerage Morris Lloyd. BJS MD Ian Roberts said the Adelaide acquisition follows the decision to continue expanding the Victorian company. “The purchase merges into the existing South Australian portfolio,” he said. “It is the sixth acquisition for BJS since we started in 2000.

“If a business fits our criteria, we either take a major interest in it with the selling broker, or we purchase it outright.”

An offshoot of the Concord Insurance Group, BJS now has offices in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran, as well as at Mornington, Wonthaggi, Cowes and Adelaide. Its annual premium income is around $20 million.

Duncan Jenkins has joined the BJS group as the new executive director of the South Australian operation. Dianne Phelan, formerly of Morris Lloyd, has been retained as a technical consultant to BJS.
