Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has extended its cyber liability business to New Zealand, appointing Ian Marshall to lead the product line there.

Last month BHSI introduced the cover in Australia, and it also offers the line in the US.

Mr Marshall, who becomes Senior Underwriter, Executive and Professional Lines, will be based in the group’s Auckland office.

He was previously at Lumley General Insurance, most recently as senior underwriter for the liability centre of expertise. He began his career as a financial lines underwriter at AIG.

BHSI is expanding its cyber business as corporate demand for the cover increases and risks become more complex.

The company has teamed up with Symantec to provide incident response services such as advice from legal experts, forensic IT services and access to public relations and credit-monitoring companies.
