Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has opened an office in Adelaide and appointed Monica Holland as Underwriting Manager.

Ms Holland has spent almost 25 years in the insurance industry, including 17 years at Chubb Insurance Australia, most recently as state manager and distribution manager.

In January another arm of the Berkshire Hathaway empire, the National Indemnity Company, arranged to take over management of the SA Motor Accident Commission claims back book from June 30, after the former Labor government privatised compulsory third-party cover in the state. Under the arrangement, Berkshire Hathaway agreed to establish operations in Adelaide.

BHSI already has operations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland.

The new office, in the Adelaide CBD’s Flinders Street, will offer property, liability, executive and professional lines, marine, accident and health, and healthcare insurance solutions.

Ms Holland will also serve as Casualty Manager for SA.
