Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has appointed former AIG executive Tony Bainbridge as Head of Healthcare Professional Liability in Australia.

Mr Bainbridge was formerly AIG’s Asia-Pacific regional head of healthcare.

“Tony comes to BHSI with more than three decades of industry experience and deep technical knowledge of the risks facing hospitals, medical practices and individual practitioners across Asia,” BHSI Australasia President Chris Colahan told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“Apart from the medical malpractice aspects, he’ll also work on the broader needs of the healthcare industry in the region. That includes property, casualty and executive and professional lines.”

Before joining AIG last year Mr Bainbridge worked in medical malpractice underwriting at Newline and Avant. He has also worked for Munich Re Australasia and Swiss Re in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.
