AMP moves staff north
AMP staff in Wellington have been told their jobs are being relocated to Auckland by the financial services company’s NZ managers.
Wellington’s Dominion Post says 75 staff have until next March to accept the move or lose their jobs. The 157 remaining Wellington staff will move into an older building.
The newspaper says rents in the company’s Wellington building have risen 42% and there’s cheaper vacant space available in its Auckland building. It says AMP regional offices in Hamilton and Dunedin may also close.
AMP moved its NZ HQ from Wellington to Auckland five years ago, continuing a trend that the financial sector union Finsec says has resulted in more than 2000 jobs being lost to the larger northern city.
