QBE has promoted Amanda Hughes to the role of Group Executive, People and Culture, effective next month.

Sydney-based Ms Hughes joined the insurer in June last year and her role was recently expanded to include HR accountability for QBE’s corporate functions.

“We are fortunate to have such high calibre leaders within our organisation,” Group CEO Andrew Horton said. “Amanda’s appointment is a great example of how we are accelerating our talent and leadership strategy.”

During 17 years in human resources, Ms Hughes has held executive roles at Lendlease, Macquarie Group and AMP, working in London and Auckland.

Margaret Murphy, who is vacating the People and Culture role to return to the UK, will work closely with Ms Hughes before departing QBE in late March.
