Allianz has confirmed it will begin offering riverine flood cover as part of its home insurance policies in NSW by the end of the year.

Chief GM Broker & Agency Jonathan Poole says riverine flood is currently excluded in every Allianz Australia domestic home building and contents policy.

But the company will introduce flood as an optional cover for home policyholders in NSW.

Mr Poole says Allianz “has been investing in the capability to provide domestic flood cover for a few years”, but at this stage it only plans to offer flood cover in NSW “due to limitations in the quality of available flood information in other states”.

He says improvements to the industry’s National Flood Information Database since its inception, and since the floods earlier this year, “have improved the ability to price flood risk”.
