Allianz prepared for any future Qantas disputes

With uncertainty still hovering over the Qantas dispute with its workforce, Allianz Global Assistance has said it will declare any new action as a separate event for travel insurance.

Other travel insurers have been more cautious, with a GIO spokesman telling insuranceNEWS.com.au it would not cover any disrupted flights from industrial action and QBE refusing to comment on the topic.

Allianz Global Assistance CEO Ian Norris says any policies taken out after November 1 this year will be covered by the revised condition.

“We are proud to say that we are the first major Australian travel insurance provider to take this step, with many of our competitors opting to restrict their cover, with no end date and no certainty for their customers,” he said.

“What matters most to us is transparency and a thorough understanding of the market.”

Mr Norris says any future incidents relating to Qantas will be assessed at that time along with the impact on the individual circumstances of the insured and the type of policy the client has purchased.
