AIG confirms All Blacks sponsorship
AIG is to become a jersey sponsor for the All Blacks and five other teams in a deal with New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU).
The five-and-a-half year agreement involves the men’s national team, as well as the Maori All Blacks, the All Blacks Sevens, the Black Ferns (women’s XV), New Zealand Women’s Sevens and New Zealand Under-20s.
The parties are not disclosing the financial terms of the agreement, which confirms July reports in the New Zealand media.
“Associating the AIG brand with the All Blacks and the highly competitive and successful New Zealand rugby union teams, as well as passionate rugby fans around the world, represents a tremendous opportunity,” Chartis Australia CEO Noel Condon told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
AIG’s new logo (see earlier story) will be displayed in white on the front of the teams’ jerseys and on the back of the men’s teams’ shorts.
NZRU CEO Steve Tew says the sponsorship is “the best option to sustain the future of New Zealand rugby and grow the global game”.
“A new logo on the All Blacks jersey is not a step we have taken lightly,” he added.
AIG President and CEO Robert Benmosche says the group is “extremely honoured” to sponsor the teams.
The insurer is currently rebranding after recovering from a 2008 US government rescue during the global financial crisis.
