AIG brings environmental response to Australia

Global insurance giant AIG has expanded its Pollution Incident and Environmental Response (PIER) 24-hour support service to clients in Australia.

Environmental policyholders can access PIER, which has been available in the US for more than 15 years and more recently in Europe.

“We are delighted to offer PIER as an enhancement to our Australian environmental policies,” AIG Head of Environmental for Asia-Pacific Stephen Ward said.

“Whether it’s a major catastrophe or minor pollution incident, AIG’s PIER can assist a client in mitigating a number of risks, including the effects on the environment, costs to the organisation and reputational damage.”

PIER features a dedicated network of specialists to help clients resume normal operations and minimise the costs associated with remediation and pollution liabilities.

It can also mobilise pollution-response specialists to react to incidents, ranging from minor spills to major and catastrophic events.

PIER specialists have expertise in environmental spill response and clean-up, disaster recovery and restoration, environmental and ecological consulting, waste management and disposal, and investigative services including cause and origin.
