AIG Australia name set to disappear

The AIG Australia brand is set to disappear within weeks as its parent company prepares to roll out its new name of Chartis.

A spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au last week the company “will be rebranding throughout Australasia in the week commencing November 30”.

The international rebrand comes in response to the massive bailout of the company’s US parent AIG in September last year. While the company’s global general insurance operations were not affected by the parent company’s near-collapse, the AIG brand had become toxic in marketing terms.

New York-based Chartis comprises profitable AIU Holdings units including AIG commercial insurance, foreign general insurance and private client group operations.

Chartis operates in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions.
