AAMI confirms small number of layoffs

Personal lines insurer AAMI has confirmed the redundancy of 31 roles in the ACT and Tasmania as part of ongoing restructuring across the Suncorp general insurance business.

But it says media reports of 30 redundancies in AAMI’s Melbourne office are wrong.

Suncorp spokesman Mike Sopinski told insuranceNEWS.com.au the insurer has shed 15 roles in Canberra as well as 16 roles in its Tasmanian operations.

The redundancies are part of work undertaken to streamline the Suncorp general insurance business, which is forecast to generate $235 million in annual savings.

“We are in the process of changing the structure of the business to remove complexity and duplication for our people and our customers, in our processing and in our financials,” he said.

He says all existing offices in ACT and Tasmania will remain open.
