WA Election boosts brokers

Last weekend’s Western Australian election result may have seen the demise of the Court Government, but its ALP successors aren’t likely to be opening the doors to insurance privatisation, either. New Premier Geoff Gallop has previously stated his opposition to the privatisation of state assets, which include a CTP scheme that has been criticised by the insurance industry for being unnecessarily expensive and uncompetitive with the private sector.

Brokers are likely to be happier, however. Mr Gallop told a NIBA meeting in Perth last year that a future ALP Government would secure the role of brokers in the state’s troubled workers’ compensation system. The Court Government had put brokers under the microscope to ascertain if their fees are matched by appropriate levels of service.
