Townsend leaves AIG

AIG’s International General Insurance CEO Chris Townsend has left the company to pursue other opportunities.

The departure of Mr Townsend, who previously led the company’s Australian operations, was announced through an internal memo yesterday.

Mr Townsend rejoined AIG in 2017 following a stint as President & CEO Asia for MetLife. Prior to that he spent two decades with AIG in a number of high-profile roles, including Australia CEO and Hong Kong CEO.

His exit follows that of another AIG stalwart, Noel Condon, who left his position of Australia CEO last month to be replaced by Fairfax Financial executive Nigel Fitzgerald.

AIG did not respond to requests for comment on Mr Townsend’s departure, but sources confirmed his exit.

Insurance News magazine published an in-depth interview with Mr Townsend, who was based in Hong Kong but spent significant time in Australia, in August 2018. The article can be found here.
